EDUCATION SERVICES

 

Access to Basic Education

            The Department of Education, Gingoog City Division has in its jurisdiction 83 elementary schools and 4 of which are privately-owned.  All 50 rural barangays have public elementary schools and all privately-owned elementary schools are in the city poblacion. 

            Of the 19,453 estimated elementary school population, only 97.17% got enrolled during the school year.  These children were served by 596 teachers occupying 576 classrooms with a total of 5,829 desks and 3,892 chairs.  Classrooms fall short by 2.

            Secondary schools totaled to 16 and 50% of them are privately-owned.  Of the 8,662 estimated secondary school population, 73.01% of which were enrolled during the school year.  The 83 secondary school teachers is sufficient for the enrolled population but available classrooms is only 95 and still need an additional of 31.  Available chairs is only 3,596 excluding that of the private because they provide their own.

 Trainings

            In the early part of the school year, the Gingoog City Division conducted the Basic Education Curriculum Training for trainers, administrators and teachers in the elementary and secondary schools, untrained teachers and in the private schools.  The Orientation-Conference Workshop for the Restructured Basic Education Curriculum was conducted for the private school teachers upon invitation.  The first batch was conducted for the Division Trainers with 29 participants.  The next batches have a total of 805 participants.

 

Non-formal Education

            Non-formal educations is intended to children whose parents cannot afford to send them to college.  For them, short term courses are offered in rural barangays handled by the NFE Facilitators.

            Gingoog City Division is divided into 4 districts and an NFE Facilitator is assigned every district.  For mobile teachers, only the East District has and therefore the city lacks 3 more.

 Special Education (SPED)

            This program is for those with disability or impairment in their sense of hearing and vision, mental retardation and autistic.  For the period, a total of 29 enrollees was registered and 13 of whom are female.

            Instructional Materials Development

·         Teachers were taught how to interpret songs.
